The Structural & Mechanical Division (SMD) was established in 1990 and has developed into a premium manufacturer not only in Bahrain, but also in the GCC. SMD has over 32,000 m2 of the most modern and well-equipped covered fabrication workshops in Bahrain, with 32 EOT cranes, 73 JIB Cranes, Gantry Cranes with open yards and advanced CNC machines. In addition, there is an enclosed blasting facility, covered paint shop and over 150,000 m2 of storage yard space to further support the execution of larger projects. The Division employs 1000 skilled workers, and the yearly capacity of the plant exceeds 50,000 tons of fabricated steel.

Aluminum Industry

SMD has developed a niche market in catering to the aluminum industry worldwide, with the successful supply of pot shells to Qatalum (Qatar), Sohor (Oman), EMAL(UAE), Alcoa (Iceland), The Maaden (KSA) aluminum smelter project and the recently awarded Kitimat smelter project in Canada..

 

Safety & Quality

For uncompromised quality AMA was awarded with ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:2007 and it also carries ASME accreditation for U.S. PP & R stamps. SMD achieved 5.2 million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury (LTI) in ALBA's Power Station 4 Project and achieved 1.43 million man-hours without a LTA in Qatar Aluminum – Anode Paste plant project of SOLIOS.
